On the authority of Shaddad ibn Aws, may Allah be pleased with him,
the Prophet, Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Aalihi Wa Sallam said,

"The most superior way of asking for forgiveness from Allah is:

"Allahumma anta Rabbi la ilaha illa,
anta khalaqtani wa ana abduka,
wa ana 'ala ahdika wa wa'dika mastata'tu,
A'udhu bika min Sharri ma sana'tu,
abu'u Laka bini'matika 'alaiya,
wa Abu'u bidhanbi faghfirli
innahu la yaghfiru adhdhunuba illa anta."

[O Allah, you are my Lord.
None has the right to be worshipped but You.
You created me and I am your slave,
and I abide by your covenant and promise as best I can.
I take refuge in You from the evil which I have committed.
I acknowledge your favor/blessings upon me
and I acknowledge my sin, so forgive me,
for verily, none can forgive except You.]

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Aalihi Wa Sallam ) added.

"If somebody recites it during the day with firm faith in it,
and dies on the same day before the evening,
he will be from the people of Paradise;
and if somebody recites it at night with firm faith in it,
and dies before the morning, he will be from the people of Paradise
."

Subhanallah!

And obviously, when a good word is charity, we know that a bad word is the opposite.

Thank you for this great hadith.

Narrated 'Aisha: The Prophet got up in the evening and glorified Allah as He deserved and then said, "Why do some people impose conditions which are not present in Allah's Book? Whoever imposes such a condition as is not in Allah's laws, then that condition is invalid even if he imposes one hundred conditions, for Allah's conditions are more binding and reliable." (Bukhari Book #34, Hadith #364)

^its from the farewell sermon, right? i dont know why you cant find it, its pretty popular. here's the full speech:
Quote:
"O People, lend me an attentive ear, for I know not whether after this year, I shall ever be amongst you again. Therefore listen to what I am saying to you very carefully and TAKE THESE WORDS TO THOSE WHO COULD NOT BE PRESENT HERE TODAY.

O People, just as you regard this month, this day, this city as Sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust. Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners. Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you. Remember that you will indeed meet your LORD, and that HE will indeed reckon your deeds. ALLAH has forbidden you to take usury (interest), therefore all interest obligation shall henceforth be waived. Your capital, however, is yours to keep. You will neither inflict nor suffer any inequity. Allah has Judged that there shall be no interest and that all the interest due to Abbas ibn ‘Abd’al Muttalib (Prophet’s uncle) shall henceforth be waived…

Beware of Satan, for the safety of your religion. He has lost all hope that he will ever be able to lead you astray in big things, so beware of following him in small things.

O People, it is true that you have certain rights with regard to your women, but they also have rights over you. Remember that you have taken them as your wives only under Allah’s trust and with His permission. If they abide by your right then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness. Do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers. And it is your right that they do not make friends with any one of whom you do not approve, as well as never to be unchaste.

O People, listen to me in earnest, worship ALLAH, say your five daily prayers (Salah), fast during the month of Ramadan, and give your wealth in Zakat. Perform Hajj if you can afford to.

All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action. Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belongs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly. Do not, therefore, do injustice to yourselves.

Remember, one day you will appear before ALLAH and answer your deeds. So beware, do not stray from the path of righteousness after I am gone.

O People, NO PROPHET OR APOSTLE WILL COME AFTER ME AND NO NEW FAITH WILL BE BORN. Reason well, therefore, O People, and understand words which I convey to you. I leave behind me two things, the QURAN and my example, the SUNNAH and if you follow these you will never go astray.

All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly. Be my witness, O ALLAH, that I have conveyed your message to your people".

(Reference: See Al-Bukhari, Hadith 1623, 1626, 6361) Sahih of Imam Muslim also refers to this sermon in Hadith number 98. Imam al-Tirmidhi has mentioned this sermon in Hadith nos. 1628, 2046, 2085. Imam Ahmed bin Hanbal has given us the longest and perhaps the most complete version of this sermon in his Masnud, Hadith no. 19774.)

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)
said: “The (scribe) on the left hand raises his pen (i.e., delays writing) for six hours [this may
refer to six hours of 60 minutes as measured by astronomers, or it may refer to short periods of
time during the day or night – Lisaan al-‘Arab] before he records the sinful deed of a Muslim. If
he regrets it and seeks Allaah’s forgiveness, the deed is not recorded, otherwise it is recorded as
one deed.”

(Reported by al-Tabaraani in al-Kabeer and al-Bayhaqi in Shu’ab al-Eemaan (The
Branches of Faith); classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Silsilat al-Ahaadeeth al-Saheehah, 1209).

On the authority of Abu Harayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Prophet (PBUH) said: Allah the Almighty said:

I am as My servant thinks I am (1). I am with him when he makes mention of Me. If he makes mention of Me to himself, I make mention of him to Myself; and if he makes mention of Me in an assembly, I make mention of him in an assemble better than it. And if he draws near to Me an arm's length, I draw near to him a fathom's length. And if he comes to Me walking, I go to him at speed.

(1) Another possible rendering of the Arabic is: "I am as My servant expects Me to be". The meaning is that forgiveness and acceptance of repentance by the Almighty is subject to His servant truly believing that He is forgiving and merciful. However, not to accompany such belief with right action would be to mock the Almighty.

It was related by al-Buhkari (also by Muslim, at-Tirmidhi and Ibn-Majah).

This is one that applied to me:

From Riyad-us-Saliheen Hadith #214 (taken from Bukhari and Muslim)

Abu Hurairah (Radi Allahu Anhu) reported: The Messenger of Allah (Sal Allahu Alayhi waSalam) said: "Every one of my followers will be forgiven except those who expose (openly) their wrongdoings. And example of this is that of a man who commits a sin at night which Allah has covered for him, and in the morning, he would say (to people): 'I committed such and such sin last night,' while Allah had kept it a secret. During the night Allah has covered it up but in the morning he tears up the cover provided by Allah Himself."

Commentary: We learn from this Hadith that commission of a sin due to human frailties on which one is ashamed but does not like to express is something which might hopefully be forgiven by Allah. In fact, its remission after penitence is almost sure. But to commit a sin openly is totally different because, firstly, the heart of such a person is deprived of the fear of Allah. Secondly he has no respect and regard for Divine injunctions. Thirdly, such a person usually does not repent his sins. Fourthly, he makes a declaration of breach of Divine injunction which amounts to inviting His wrath and punishment.

And of course we know that

Riayd us-Saliheen (Hadith #240, from Muslim)

Abu Hurairah (Radi Allahu Anhu) reported: The Prophet (Sal Allahu Alayhi waSalam) said: "Allah will cover up on the Day of resurrection the defects (faults) of the one who covers up the faults of the other in this world.

I would suggest that anyone who wants a book of hadith that they can read every night before bed or during the day to purchase Riyad-us-Saliheen. It is two volumes with the best most authentic hadith from Bukhari and Muslim and others, and is not as large as the full volumes. A great reference to have at home.

In the matter of worldly resources always look at those who are at a lower level than you.Keep their company and have an eye on their conditions of life.In matters relating to religion, keep the company of those who are superior to you, and at a higher level than you. This is because when you see people inferior to you in worldly resources, you will value the good things with which Allah has favored you, which others do not possess. This will create in you a sense of contentment and gratitude.and the love of acquiring worldly goods will be uprooted. On the other hand, when in matters concerning religion you cast your eyes on those who are superior to you and have gone ahead of you, you will realize your inferiority and think of getting rid of it by trying to catching up with your superiors.

Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه reported: The Prophet [صلى الله عليه وآله وصحبه وسلم] said, “I saw a man going about in Jannah (and enjoying himself) as a reward for cutting from the middle of the road, a tree which was causing inconvenience to the Muslims.” [Sahih Muslim]

- Proof of the Blessings Carried by Prophetic Relics -

Narrated Abu Burda [رضي الله عنه]: Abu Musa [رضي الله عنه] said: I was with The Prophet [صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ] when he was encamping at Al-Jarana (a place) between Mecca and Medina and Bilal was with him. A bedouin came to the Prophet and said, "Won't you fulfill what you have promised me?" The Prophet [صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ] said, “Rejoice (at what I will do for you).”The bedouin said, "(You have said to me) rejoice too often." Then the Prophet [صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ] turned to me (that is, Abu Musa) and Bilal in an angry mood and said, “The bedouin has refused the good tidings, so you both accept them.”

Bilal and I said, “We accept them.” Then the Prophet [صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ] asked for a drinking bowl containing water and washed his hands and face in it, and then took a mouthful of water and threw it therein saying (to us), “Drink (some of) it and pour (some) over your faces and chests and be happy at the good tidings.” So they both took the drinking bowl and did as instructed. Um Salama called from behind a screen, “Keep something (of the [holy and blessed] water) for your mother.” So they left some of it for her.

Narrated Anas ibn Malik [رضي الله عنه]: Allah's Messenger صَلَّىَ الْلَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ said: “Whoever asks for prayers upon me once, Allah will pray upon him 10 times, and whoever asks for prayers upon me 10 times, Allah will pray upon him 100 times, and whoever asks for prayers upon me 100 times, Allah will inscribe between his eyes freedom from hypocrisy and shield from the Fire, and Allah will house him with the martyrs on the Day of Resurrection.”

In another narration, it is related that the Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) said, "If someone blesses me once, Allah blesses him ten times; and if someone blesses me ten times, Allah blesses him one hundred times; and if someone blesses me one hundred times, Allah blesses one thousand times; and whoever blesses me one hundred times, Allah will forbid his body to the Fire, strengthen him with a firm word in the life of this world and in the Next in the questioning, and He will admit him to the Garden. His prayers on me will come to him as a light on the Day of Resurrection on the Sirat, visible at a distance of 500 years, and Allah will give him a castle in the Garden for every prayer that he prayed for me, whether there is little or a lot."
