«Allahumma, pray upon our liege-lord Muhammad, the Ummi Prophet, and upon His Wives, the Mothers of the Believers, and His Descendants and the People of His Household, as You prayed upon our liege-lord Abraham and the House of our liege-lord Abraham; for You are Praised and Glorified. Allahumma, bless our liege-lord Muhammad and the House of our liege-lord Muhammad, as You blessed our liege-lord Abraham and the House of our liege-lord Abraham; for You are Praised and Glorified»
(the seeking of Wasila, or Means) is a permissible and highly encouraged practice in all four Sunni schools of law, as well as among the Shias, and has been since the time of the Noble Salaf. It was commanded by the Lord of creation, Allah Most High [Qur'an 5:35], and taught by the liege-lord of creation, God's Beloved Himself, Allah bless Him and greet Him and His House and Companions with peace.
The only group of Muslims who have a problem with it are our Salafi brethren; we respect the difference of opinion, but prefer to follow that which the majority of the noble scholars of this Ummah are agreed on, instead of the opinion of one-or-a-few scholars.

Shaykh Faraz is ma sha' Allah one of the most well-known and active modern-day Muslim scholars of the Sunni schools. After graduation, Shaykh Faraz traveled with his family to Damascus, Syria, to formally seek Islamic knowledge. In Damascus, he studied Arabic, Aqida, Mantiq, Hanafi Fiqh, Shafi'I Fiqh, Usul al-Fiqh, and Hadith with a number of scholars including Shaykh Haytham Idilbi, Shaykh Abd al-Rahman Kharsa, Shaykh Abd al-Haleem Abu Sha`r, Shaykh Umar al-Sabbagh, Shaykh Jihad Brown, Shaykh Mu'min al-Annan, Shaykh Hassan al-Hindi, Sayyidi Shaykh Adib Kallas, Shaykh Muhammad Jumuah, Sh. Abdal-Razzaq al-Halabi, Shaykh Haytham and Ustadh Mahmud al-Bayruti. He has two published books: Sufism & Good Character
and The Absolute Essentials of Islam: A Basic Hanafi Primer on Faith, Prayer, & the Path of Salvation
. [White Thread Press, 2004]. In 2009, Shaykh Faraz was named one of the 500 most influential Muslims by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Center.
A more detailed response by Shaykh Faraz's teacher, Shaykh Nuh Ha Mim (Allah preserve and increase them both):Tawassul: Supplicating Allah through an Intermediary - by Shaykh Nuh Ha Mim Keller
The reason I introduced the scholars is because one should know who one is taking one's knowledge from; and secondly, these type of questions should only be referred to proper, qualified scholars of the Deen. Not on Wake Up Project forums, where most of us are mere quarreling teenagers with hardly any understanding of the religious sciences.
Jazak Allah Khayr, and Allah and His Messenger know best; Allah bless Him and greet Him, and His House and Companions and followers, with peace.«مَولَاىَ صَلِّ وسَلِّمْ دَائِمَاً أَبَدَا
