Re: The University of Córdoba
SubhanAllah Bro; Brilliant work
When students at Islamic Universities had received a higher education; they would wear robes & a cap. The design of this attire eventually became the cap and gown that we know of today. Its sad how the situation today has turned upside down; Yesterday's University of Cordoba is today's Oxford.
No disrespect intended but the Western world didn't even know what toilets were !, In France they used to defecate in their bags in their houses & then throw them out .. [in fact its said they didn't even bath, they just used parfum !]
The term “Gardy-Loo” was used in England before the invention of modern day sewage facilities. On page 131 of the brilliant novel Ghoul, author Michael Slade describes the terms origin.
“ Even walking down the street in those early days was a hazardous pastime. British in-house facilities then consisted of a chamber pot, the contents of which were tossed out the window to a cry of “Gardy-Loo!”
This came from the French term “Gardez l’eau” and God help the Englishman who wasn’t bilingual. The term is still used today in ‘going to the loo’.”
Its from Islamic Spain that they learnt immensely ; what it meant to have a garden, a clean environment, a sewerage system etc.. Its just so painful to see that today they have adopted so much while our people have unfortunately gone back.. Go to a Madrassah today [I do NOT mean all] & you may find that attacking Israel is more important than being clean or keeping your surroundings clean!
May God Almighty haver Mercy on us all, Ameen
