I loved guns since I was an infant lol, actually I pretty much know anything about magzine bullet types from 7.62mm NAto to the common 5.56mm tounds. I'm not sure about the .408 cal CheyTac rifle you mentioned but yeah it was always those modern 50 cal hand cannons that I only know about. Right now im just interested in 12 gauge buckshot crowd sweepers (shotgun!)

Was gonna start a new topic on this, but don't see the point.

Anyway, had a conversation on Arranged marriages with a Non-Muslim today, and the responses I got.... :|

Its pretty obvious where this debate was going.

Erm, so basically my opinion on it has changed entirely. Which ain't a good thing...

Now, I'm stumped.

Whats your guys opinion on "Arranged marriages"? How would you define it? Do you agree with it?

hmmm.. interesting topic; i would say it depends what type of background you're from really.. personaly i find the best way is a semi-arranged marriage ;) its where the parents & the bride/groom come to a sensible conclusion..

the reason parents are important in this decision is because they are parents ! they surely know their children well enough to at least know a little about what suits them [i am NOT saying this is always the case as it does vary these days where children are a force in their own sense]

the person getting married is naturally the most important as its his/her decision of a lifetime but cases where youngsters fall terribly in love [i've known people to the point of contemplating suicide !] can be just plain childish..i think there is a tradition which goes like this : 'young age is a type of madness', in such a situation mature guidance is essential.. but few understand when they are young

i say semi-arranged because:

purely arranged can result in disaster .. the parents may be arranging a marriage for reasons other than what the bride/groom expect,, i.e. they may be looking at family, wealth etc plus Islamic tradition makes allowance for the bride/groom to see each other .. [with other relatives] so that they can feel an attraction between them.. in typical arranged marriages some partners see each other for the first time on their wedding night !

on the other hand..

love marriages can be immature decisions which later show results in the form of separation, divorce or one partner simply giving up & deciding to live it for the sake of children.. i think western statistics prove this fact pretty well

anyways enough said , i'm no love guru so i better stop stop here ;)

@Passer by:

Tbh, no matter WHAT background you may be from, arranged marriages are still very common.
Then again, if the arranged marriage don't work out, then you'll hate your parents, and love marriages can pretty much end up in personal and family grudges.

Its a win-win situation I think. Well after re-thinking, I decided that if parents know best for their child (obviously having more experience too), and the daughter/son are happy with their decision, then an arranged marriage ain't too bad?

After all, forcing a child into marriage is haraam, right? Plus everyone has a right to say "No"!

Hmm, most love marriages do end up in a flop. Totally agree with you about the 'semi-arranged' marriage lol.

Tough decisions man, then again God knows best..

Ahh...early morning giggles.

I, for one, wouldn't mind it. My parents are just not the sort to arrange one for their children, I think. It's also not very common here and most of the time, you're supposed to find one on your own. Some friends of mine and myself included always wondered how is it that they make it look SO easy. *lol* Just not our time yet. Allahu'alam. :)

Moonsighting is TONIGHT!!! I really hope that the first day for us will fall on a Friday, Ameen & insha Allah~ *Psyched*

@freedomlover I am not sure, bro. But my calculations were incorrect which was my bad. :) Was overly excited. :D Checked the calendar and since they announced that they couldn't see the new moon (it was cloudy all day...beautiful weather really), we're going to have 30 days of Sha'ban & Ramadan starts on Saturday here.

salamun alaikum guys,

how was your first day?

honestly, during the day it wasn't that much of trouble, but after iftar i felt so exhausted muy eyelids weight approximately 50 tons

another thing i'd like to ask is, what did you eat at iftar?

let's collect some ideas, my mother was asking me all day, what do you wanna eat?
and i was like, i dunno mum, something easy to digest :D

First Taraweeh Saalah starts tonight ... & first fast starts tomorrow InshAllah.

At Suhoor, I would recommend dates and milk DEFINITELY.. but obviously foods that release slow energy (such as toast?).

At Iftaar, YOU JUST EAT WHAT YOUR EYES FEAST ON! o_o

Nah, dates, fruit (loads of it), water (important) aaand, some fried foods; You just can't resist your Mother's samosas x)
That's pretty much it! Key is to eat healthily and consume the more important foods in your diet. ;)

here in Pakistan, eating possibilities for seher and iftar are unimaginable. people eat too much that most of the time their food taking ratio in ramadan overpass the ordinary days. most favorite things are heavy oily foor like pakoras, samosas, kachori etc. etc. if i started mention the iftar or seher table, that would be an essay :) and most important thing, in ramadan people become most "unhygienic" :D

Wa'alaikumsalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh~

First night of taraweeh was fantastic that I find myself grinning a couple of times at the masjid, alhamdulillah. :)

Just had our first iftar a couple of hours ago. We had our usual fried potatoes with eggs (Mama's special *loves*) and bread with fried eggs and meat in it (called "Roti John" here. Don't ask me why. It's one of those street foods that gained popularity many years ago and is now a delicacy. :D) It was one of the smallest iftars we've had since my Dad was like, "It's only the first day." and my older sister will only come back tomorrow. I am thankful for the small meal though since I didn't feel too full for taraweeh.

Mmmm...samosas! I also see some name of food I'm not familiar with. I hope they taste as good as they sound! >_<

Why would they become unhygienic? Or do I want to know? Hehehhe

hahahaha!
if you say "unhygienic" to any Lahori he will give you look like this:
Image

actually our life style is so modified that in our simple life we are used to this unhygienic food and conditions, so in ramazan its not hard for us to continue that. fews days back i was reading in newspaper that Lahories eat samosas of value 1.5 billion rupees (i USD=90 rupess) in a single month of Ramadan. and its the condition of only one large city of Pakistan! now you can imagine how good in eating we are :D
