I hope the moderators don't hate me for this but I thought there should be a RANDOM THREAD to lighten this place up, not that its depressing or anything............ (I'll just leave it at that I think)

Post what you like, speak your mind, if you feel like screaming, if something exciting happened in your day, or simply wanting to 'attack' your keyboard, or even something you have a really strong opinion about!

If this thread gets tedious then I shall work my magic and come up with.. perhaps a debatable question?

So yeah, Random is the way forward.

Meh, I talk way too much.

In the meantime, Take care.

That TV show?

Not really my pick.

Lately I've been once again getting interested in astronomy and space...

Watching plenty of documentaries. Especially by Brian Cox. I really like how he's so takes so much wonder in explaining all the intricacies of the universe. Makes me wish I should have stuck with my plans of doing theoretical physics in college but well Allah (swt) had other plans for me and I won't complain as I'm still in a pretty good course...

Also am planning on getting a telescope and get into astrophotography. Space is something that always fascinated me ever since I was a wee kid. I always read plenty of books about space when I was a kid and used to spend hours looking at the night sky with a pair of binoculars I had and identifying all the stars, constellations and planets in the sky. But then I moved on and got buy with worldly matters...

Now I'm once again looking to get re acquainted with the night sky. It is quite a tragedy that we are no longer connected to the heavens. We live in bright cities and all the stars have disappeared from the night sky. We never even bother looking up at the sky anymore. While in the past the night sky was always a source of great wonder for man. All the different lights that would appear in the sky once the sun disappeared below the horizon. All the mysteries these lights contained in their shimmer and movement. What do these lights point to? What is their purpose? What are the signs in the sky that point towards their creator. Only wish college and all these worldly matters wouldn't take so much of the precious little time I have here that I could spend more time contemplating and reflecting on the wonders of creation...

Pretty random?

Nah I just figured I'm always eating whenever the Big Bang Theory comes on, hence I was food-less just then.

How would you overcome your tiredness when trying to concentrate?

Early nights don't help so that's out.

Zzzzzzz. Back to work -.-

*lol* Random indeed. Just what I needed right now, I think.

Yes, I do follow the Big Bang Theory and my favourite is Sheldon! When I first watched it, I loved that it was mostly filled with characters who are usually deemed socially awkward. :)

As for the night sky, it has always been a passion of mine as well since I was little. I find it to be a humbling and beautiful experience. The first time I laid eyes on the heavens, I was in awe and felt insignificant at the same time. Felt that my head was filled with selfish thoughts. It was the first time, one that I could still remember, that I began to observe Allah's creations and appreciate the beauty as well as uniqueness of it all, SubhanAllah!

I have yet to get my own telescope so for now it just suffice for me to drool at the ones they show at stargazing shows (love the BBC ones). *lol* It has been unclear recently due to the haze from forest fires and the hot weather. The air also smells like smoke so can't sit outside in the dark to unwind. :( But yeah, love the night sky~

When I was a temporary translator at one of the local papers here, we were required to sit and transcribe a lot of recordings sometimes for more than 8 hours which usually made the desk as inviting as my bed. I came across a tip that said one can boost one's energy by drinking a cold glass of water and do jumping jacks. Couldn't really do the jumping jacks at the office so cold glass of water helped woke me up. This might help as well:

The night skies here are so bad. Firstly for the past couple of weeks its been constantly cloudy. You really need to be lucky to spot a night with clear skies. Then you need to wait till midnight before the skies truly darken. Even then the skies aren't completely dark and couple that with the light pollution of modern cities, you're lucky if you can spot anything more than the brightest stars.

And I don't like travelling anywhere during the night time here as in the night the streets are full of drunken and aimless people with no good intents... :(

I need to get away....

That's too bad! Light pollution is really a bother, I know. Even though we only have regular streetlights and garage lights where I live, they still cast that reddish glow that usually frustrates stargazers. I can't imagine the amount of light pollution you're getting there! Maybe you can join a stargazers/astronomy association there? They sometimes have field trips to the much darker countrysides, no? There's also SLOOH if you don't mind paying for it...I wouldn't because I don't trust credit cards. *lol*

Yeah, I need to look into joining a stargazers club... I'm only just getting back into astronomy and its probably the worst time as the nights here are barely 4hrs long and even then the skies don't get fully dark.

Summer, right! I can't imagine being in a place where the nights are that short. Have always wanted to know how it feels like though. Maybe someday, insha Allah. Not sure if I'm ready to try it out during Ramadan though...

Anytime! :)

Yup, climate change.

How do you guys reckon muslims who live in Alaska, for example, where at certain times have no night time, practices their daily salat or fasting for that matter? Hmmmm...

Oh yeah, Ramadan is gonna be pretty interesting as the times get longer every year... 18hr long fasts are quite something and it does get pretty draining after 20 odd days... Tough at least for me its during me summer break so I won't be doing much anyway. Though for the ones who have to work through it, its quite a test.
