-Patience is not silence, but speaking & acting at the
right time with a calm mind, in an unharmful way.

-Generosity is not giving everything you have or spending
all of your time for the benefit of others, but not keeping
your mind hanging onto what you have.

-Compassion is not putting yourself into trouble,
but taking others out of trouble.

A naturaly peacefull mind is one that does not have to work hard to achive the bliss of a peacefull mind.

A mind is more naturally peacefull when the owner of the mind not only watches out for what he exposes his consciousness to, but also his subconcious mind.

By this i mean, you dont hear thoughts in your mind about things you dont undertsand, and there are many things you better off not understanding.

Meditation is like opening up the stomach of the mind to see what the mind has been feeding on, only here can you begin to see how what the mind is exposed to has been taking shape in the mind. The waves of thoughts that reach your mind are determind by what you expose the mind to.

Dont expose the mind to ideas you dont want to have to clean up later, or struggle with.

If something looks like bad taste from a distance, dont give it a closer look.

Nice thread. Thank you.

May I please ask that you also tell us who the quote is from?

Here is one from Imam Hasan:
"Whoever has put their full trust (tawakkul) in Allah (swt), will not wish that his condition be any different to what Allah (swt) wanted for him."

The soul is dyed the color of its thoughts. Think only on those things that are in line with your principles and can bear the light of day. The content of your character is your choice. Day by day, what you do is who you become. Your integrity is your destiny — it is the light that guides your way.
-Heraclitus

Because we do not know when we will die, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well. And yet everything happens only a certain number of times, and a very small number really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, an afternoon that is so deeply a part of your being that you cannot conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four, or five times more? Perhaps not even that. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless.

Speak positivly to encourage, and negativly to discourage.

So that if encouragement is your intention, then dont speak, till you have found a way to say it positvly, in an encouraging way.

You dont get students to improve by constantly remininding them what they cant do well.

i understand your point. a positive approach is more effective. i think Maha s phrase is emphasizing on the importance of putting an effort to purify/cleans the soul, which has been neglected almost completely in this world and replaced by cleansing your house, car, career, body, looks, clothes....

actually her quote reminds me of the words of my Bedouin neighbour in Sinai; "when the soul is clenched/teshba3 the human is clenched/yeshba3"
"lama al nafs teshba3, al insaan yeshba3"

Some words of wisdom from a master of meditation, on getting to know the self, and its subconcious mind, as a means to achieving better self control against slavery to moods and cravings.

If you dont have the power, you cant execute the will power to self control.

If you have the power, only then can you exercise the will power to self control.

So first go get some power, only then can you start to think about self control.

And then climb your way up the ladder of power gently as your pace allows you.

Power comes from actions that show you want to prefer principle over pleasure, actions like, Prayer, Exercise, Meditation, Charity, Fasting, Work, etc 1 million ways atleast.

So dont be dissapointed when your will power is less than you desire, just go get some more power, then test drive your will power again.

Your will power is always equal to how much power you have, never more or less. And your current level of power is what is called your Behaviour or LifeStyle.

Even a bigggest engine car needs the friction of the current ground it stands on in order to gain motion, else it will skid and stay still.

So that a person needs to know himself, and accept who he his now, if he his to stand a chnace of making progress.

God Help Us To Always Want and work towards progress, so that we too can gain motion in the right direction.

And then the devil said, "I will not cease to lure your followers towards evil as long as their souls are connected to their bodies."
To that, Allah replied, "And I will not stop forgiving them as long as they seek my forgiveness."
