Couples spend too much on weddings these days, it's outrageous. :|

Personally I prefer a much simpler wedding, there is no need to spend so much money, that money can be better spent elsewhere. Perhaps the couple could use it to go to hajj together instead, now wouldn't that be a beautiful honeymoon?

Lol, I'm not sure if I can take "girl's blouse" as an insult, it just seems too silly.

She prefers not to burqa; I might not have any friends if they saw how ugly I was lol.

in Pakistan weddings are influenced by some old traditions of India like Mehendi Ceremony and Mayo Ceremony .....all are fun but all are definitely not part of Islam ...its not just waste of money ..it is actually against Islam n still we are part of it ...

Agreed. Sis Smiley had a book about that. Also these ceremonies are just a waste of too much money. It doesn't look like a marriage, but more like a one-week celebration event. Pisses me off! :x I don't know why our people just couldnt keep up to simple living standards. Marriage is a celebration event. Lets do that in modesty. NOOOO!! We want huge speakers and indian songs combined with dancing. It's ok to sing and dance and make that duff. But then again, our people cross the limits. Alhamdulillah they're are still people left that are modest in their celebrations. I don't know why our culture has adapted the indian methods.

I'm pretty sure our wedding only cost whatever it cost to buy the marriage license, the cake, and a little sadaqah into the poor box when it was over.

seriously man, and the fact that i am forced to go to all these stupid and useless, waste of time ceremonies of the weddings..........i'd rather be doing something practical than staring into space, or feeling underdressed the whole time (flashy pakistani clothing is soo not my style). apparently reading a novel while people are clebrating by "dancing" is kinda rude...........urgh, and there's another wedding coming up this summer which i'll have to attend.....u can call me a killjoy, but its boring, especially as a girl.....as a kid i could hang out with the guys, go outside or wonder around the hotel, mess around and create our own fun....or just nick some money off dad and go on a shopping spree at the hotel while the rest of the world stares at the bride and groom on the stage...pfft, pathetic, and now i get bored outta my mind. sorry bout the rant.

^^^you have my heart felt sympathies. its was just my luck that i was sick during the wedding and dint have to attend, yay me!
as far as dances go, i dont like them and i wouldnt be allowed to either. so, its not my thing.
clothes!!?? soooo annoying, thank god for my mum not being all craaaaazy for clothes, i usually wind up buying stufff a day before the wedding, whether its my aunts wedding or cousins. so u get the idea of how non-chalant i am about this stuff. my m8s cousin is getting married and theyv been shopping for ages, to get the perfect clothes, matching shoes etc.
phew, no more weddngs on the calender for the next few yrs, hopefully.

your a guy??? then why on earth are you dancing? you could totally back out!!
some women are sooooo urgh! lol
my shopping is finished within a space of 2 hrs. pop in, maybe like something, buy it, leave. end of story.
i mean, its a one day thing, i really dont underdstand why they go through so many preparations with clothes etc. especially the bride, you're just going to wear it once in your whole life, what a waste!!!!!!
