In my humble opinion, the best food is made in hot countries...take for instance, the embarrassing home specials you find in sunny England..

They make good 'roast dinners', I must admit, but apart from that, I usually find myself turning to a foreign dish, because I just cant think of a good British dish that won't turn my stomach purple... I think this in part, is the reason for the BNP and general hatred for foreigners I see when i'm on the street..

Kebab or a Biryani or chicken fried rice in one hand and a middle finger up at anyone from outside the worlds greatest country in the other, they truly know the meaning of ignorance... (I can get away with saying this as I have some English blood lool)

SO, if you want to give me some examples of a good British dish that wont give you heart failure, i'm all ears...

As for my favorite nation of food, It has to be either Turkey or Mexico...Turkey just knows how to get the flow going with food, Greece threw in an early challenge, but they fell at the first hurdle with too much resemblance to Italy...Mexico however, wow, they blew me away with fajitas, some blinding chillis, jalapeno, peppers and the best flavoured chicken ever , I don't even know if they originate from there, but I found a challenger to all variations of Borek!

British can not cook, Even the Battered fish in Fish 'N' Chips comes from Spain.

The best food hands down comes from ASIA.

 I'm going to be abit biased and agree with the fact that the best food comes from Asia. I recently went to London and the one thing I couldn't stand there was the food there which often resulted in buying foreign food. The French have the best pastries and bread in my opionion. America has the largest pizzas that Ive seen and tasty ones as well...Though I'm still torn between Turkish food and Arabian food choice :? Both are delicious to decide from

Though I have to say the Aussie food isnt that bad either ;)

I think British people pride themselves on their ability to choose a takeaway over effort, and then they see chefs on tv and call them nutcases..

I have a strong affiliation with Asian cuisine, especially the spicy kind, not into the creamy curry ideas though, I feel they made a mistake there

Ahem!

Arabian
Turkish
Greek
French
Italian
American...in that order. I'm sorry, England who?

Although Chef Marco Perrier White, and Gorden Ramsey are not exactly armatures either, wait ...wait for it...YES! They're British, but perhaps one of the best chefs in the world. Although the typical Middle Eastern mother, puts them to shame, especially mine.

Cheers.

Do Americans have any of their own dishes?

If I was to do a revised list, Turkish-Mexican-Arabia-Asian would be it.

Something about France, I went once and indulged in some baked foods and pastries, and they were some of the best Id ever had in terms of cake foods.

The worlds best is Asian, especially Indian, After all its the UK's best meal.
Before Asia the world had bland food. But we introduced spices and exotic flavors to the world.

Turkish food is a blend of Arabian and Asian flavors.
Afgan food came from the subcontinent.

As for American? :? It all has foreign origin.

They have a HUGE gastronomy in Russia, which is kinda hard to believe, I was taught at school that they only eat potatoes & drink vodka...

Russia is a big country with a lot of different cultures, different climates & vast forests (= mushrooms, plants, wild meat...) There is a strong peasant culture in Russian, wherever you see peasants working the land, you know there's good food. The people went through so many hard times, they had to learn how to grow & keep food, combine what little they had to survive the harsh weather.
They have a generous cuisine with healthy servings, simple & effective, like their weaponry

They don't talk about Russian cuisine very often, but I find it a lot better than French one. Two bits of celery & and pork sausage, in a huge, empty plate... Expensive & snobbish.

Asslam alaikum, a good british dish- shepherds pie! Very tasty, but the ultimate best has to be indian food.
It was actually the muslims who back in the days began importing and exporting spices to the european countries and hence the foods became more appealing otherwise we would all be eating boiled vegetables.the muslims also modified the clock to what it is now. So we could all be precise about the times of our salah.
Asslam alaikum.
